La Vieille Ferme is the everyday label of Famille Perrin, the family that owns Château de Beaucastel in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The white is labeled Vin de France, with grapes mainly from the Languedoc and the Rhône Valley.
It's a blend of Bourboulenc, Grenache Blanc, Ugni Blanc and Vermentino; the producer doesn't publish percentages. The grapes are pneumatically pressed and fermented in temperature-controlled tanks, and the wine stays in stainless steel until bottling, with no oak. It's 12.5% alcohol, and the 750ml bottle has a screwcap.
The producer describes a golden-yellow color with silvery highlights, white peach, jasmine and mimosa blossom on the nose, nectarine and freshness on the palate, and a long finish with saline and yuzu notes.
Against Casal Garcia Vinho Verde, La Vieille Ferme Blanc is a Southern French blend at 12.5% rather than 9.5%; for an unoaked white to pour with dinner, choose La Vieille Ferme.
The producer suggests serving it at 8°C as an aperitif, with a starter or with a cold buffet.
