Markovic Estates Sweet Red Wine

Markovic Estates is a family brand with Serbian roots. The family started its own vineyard in Béziers, in the south of France, in 1949, and in 2000 Ivan and Nadia set up the brand in its current form to bring the family's wines and spirits to the United States.

The producer calls this wine "Sweet Red – Vin Rouge Doux" and says it is crafted in the south of France. It's sold in both 750ml and 1.5L bottles. It's a different wine from the brand's Select Rivesaltes Sweet Red, which is a fortified, tawny-style bottling.

The producer describes ripe berries, violets and a hint of spice, with gentle sweetness and a silky finish.

Against Roscato Rosso Dolce, the Markovic Sweet Red is a French bottle that costs less; for a gently sweet red with a silky finish, choose Markovic.

Serve it lightly chilled. It's an easy match for spicy takeout, barbecue, fruit desserts and chocolate, and the 1.5L size suits parties and holiday tables.
