Roscato comes from Cavit, the Italian producer, and was developed with its US importer, Palm Bay International. The grapes come from the Provincia di Pavia in Lombardy, northern Italy.
Rosso Dolce is a blend of three northern Italian red grapes: Croatina, Teroldego and Lagrein. It's frizzante, or gently fizzy, and one retailer says the bubbles come from a second fermentation in closed tanks. It's sweet and light at 7% alcohol.
Retailers describe brilliant ruby color, blackberry and ripe wild berry, cherry and raspberry, fresh and lively, with a soft, clean finish.
Against Stella Rosa Red, Roscato is the Lombardy-grown frizzante made from Croatina, Teroldego and Lagrein; for a gently fizzy Italian sweet red at 7% alcohol, choose Roscato.
Serve it chilled. Distributor Badger Liquor suggests it as an aperitif or with tomato sauces and spicy food, and it also works with chocolate or berry desserts. It comes in 750ml and 1.5L bottles.
