Paul Hobbs Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2022 750ml

Paul Hobbs Winery is based in Sebastopol, in Sonoma County, and its Russian River Valley estates include the Edward James, Katherine Lindsay, George Menini and Fraenkle Cheshier vineyards. This is its appellation-tier Pinot Noir.

The 2022 is blended from several sites on sandy clay loam, red clay and gravelly loam. According to the Vine King, the grapes were hand-harvested at night, with 12% whole clusters, a 5-day cold soak, a 17-day maceration, indigenous yeasts and spontaneous malolactic in barrel. It was aged in French oak and bottled unfined and unfiltered. It's 14.2% alcohol.

The winemaker's notes describe a ruby-edged violet color, tart red cherry and cranberry, then red plum and boysenberry, with orange peel, bergamot and Earl Grey tea, a juicy palate, a hint of sea salt and a long finish.
