Santero Moscato Rose

Santero is the family firm Santero Fratelli, based in Santo Stefano Belbo in the Piedmont province of Cuneo.

This is a sweet sparkling wine, labeled Spumante Dolce, rather than a Moscato d'Asti. One retailer says Moscato is blended with pink-skinned Moscato Rosa, which gives the salmon color, and two retailers describe its bubbles as naturally produced. It comes in 187ml, 750ml and 1.5L bottles.

Retailers describe wild strawberry and rose petal, with ripe strawberry and raspberry and a gentle fizz.

Against XXL Sparkling Moscato, Santero is lighter in alcohol and softer; for an easy pink sparkler to sip through the afternoon, choose Santero.

The Liquor Barn suggests serving it well chilled, at 40 to 45°F. Pour it with fresh berries, strawberry shortcake, fruit tarts or a spicy noodle dish, or use the small bottles for brunch, picnics and party favors.
