Taylor Port comes from the Taylor Wine Company, whose Taylor Desserts brand was founded in 1880 and has a vineyard on Keuka Lake in New York's Finger Lakes. Constellation Brands sold its Taylor dessert wines to E. & J. Gallo in a deal that closed in January 2021, so Gallo now owns the brand.
This is an American port-style wine, not Portuguese Porto. Food Lion's listing says the grapes come from New York and the wine is bottled in Canandaigua, NY.
The producer's copy calls it a rich, moderately sweet ruby port. The Liquor Barn describes it as sweet and round, with blackberry, plum, dark cherry, caramel and chocolate.
Against Taylor Fladgate Fine Ruby Port, Taylor Port is the New York-made, budget-friendly bottle; for cooking, punch or an easy nightcap at a low price, choose Taylor Port.
The Liquor Barn suggests serving it at 55 to 60°F. Pour a small glass after dinner with dark chocolate or cheddar, or use it in a pan sauce. The 1.5L and 3L sizes suit holiday gatherings.
