The Pinot Project is a wine brand started in 2009 and imported by Skurnik Wines & Spirits. This Pinot Grigio is Italian: Skurnik lists it as Delle Venezie DOC, from the Veneto.
The grapes come from several vineyards in the Veneto on clay and limestone soils. After crushing, the skins are removed and the juice is fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless steel, with no oak. It's 12% alcohol and comes in a screw-cap 750ml bottle or a four-pack of 250ml cans.
Skurnik describes green apple, citrus and pear on the nose, and a round, ripe palate with medium acidity and notes of Granny Smith apple, lime, pear and white peach. The winemaker's notes for an earlier vintage call it crisp, fresh and exceptionally easy drinking, with apple, lemon and honeysuckle.
Against Bota Box Pinot Grigio, The Pinot Project comes in single-serve cans; for a beach day or picnic, choose The Pinot Project.
Serve it well chilled. Skurnik suggests seafood, pasta and light cheeses, and it works with a salad or takeout sushi.
