Herradura Añejo is a 100% blue Weber agave tequila from Amatitán in Jalisco's Tequila Valley, Mexico, bottled at 40% alcohol in a 750ml bottle.
It is made at Casa Herradura (NOM 1119), founded in 1870 and owned by Brown-Forman. The agave is cooked in brick ovens, fermented with wild yeast in open tanks and distilled twice, then aged 25 months in American oak, about twice the one-year minimum for añejo.
Herradura describes intense agave, toasted oak, candied nuts, cinnamon and citrus, with deep, nutty caramel and hints of pineapple and orange. The Beverage Testing Institute gives it 92 points, calling it a very elegant and delicately spicy sipper, and Wine Enthusiast (Kara Newman) 91.
It is a long-aged añejo at a mid-range price; for the younger style see Herradura Reposado, and for a bolder, heavily charred version see Herradura Legend.
Sip it neat or on a large ice cube.
Shop more añejo and extra añejo tequila and all tequila and mezcal, with Brooklyn pickup and same-day delivery across NYC.
