Bombay Sapphire is made by vapour infusion: its ten botanicals sit in copper baskets above the spirit in Carterhead stills, so the vapour picks up their flavour without boiling them. Since 2014 it has been made at Laverstoke Mill in Hampshire, and it is owned by Bacardi.
Launched in 1986, it is lighter and more aromatic than most London Dry gins, with citrus, coriander and peppery cubeb and grains of paradise over gentle juniper.
If you want a crowd-pleasing gin and tonic, Bombay Sapphire is a safe choice; for a punchier, piney gin go to Tanqueray. For a citrus-forward step up, try Bombay Premier Cru Murcian Lemon.
The producer's own serve is Bombay Sapphire and tonic with a lime wedge. It also works well in a Tom Collins or a Bramble.
We stock it in 375ml, 750ml, 1-litre and 1.75-litre bottles; the 1.75-litre is currently on sale. More bottles are under gin, and the rest of our liquor is a click away. Pick it up at our Brooklyn store or get same-day delivery across NYC.
