Croft Reserve Tawny Porto 750ml

Croft was founded in 1588. The house belongs to The Fladgate Partnership and owns Quinta da Roêda in the Douro Valley.

Reserve Tawny is a blend of wines selected, in Croft's words, for their smoothness and mellow character. The components age for up to seven years in oak casks in Croft's cellars and are blended a few months before bottling. It carries no age statement and no vintage.

Croft describes a light brick-red color with an amber hue, a nose of red fruit, caramel, raisins and cloves, and a palate of cardamom, spice, butterscotch, redcurrant, nuts and strawberry jam. The house calls it smooth and round, with an elegant finish.

Against Taylor Fladgate 20 Year Tawny, Croft Reserve Tawny is a younger blend at less than half the price; for an everyday tawny to sip after dinner, choose Croft.

Croft recommends serving it at 12 to 16°C, with no decanting needed. Store the bottle upright once opened. Try it with pecan pie, crème brûlée or a plate of walnuts and dried figs.
