Télégramme is the second Châteauneuf-du-Pape of Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe, the Brunier family's century-old estate. The Bruniers first made it in 2002 from declassified Vieux Télégraphe. It normally comes from younger vines on La Crau and is made for earlier drinking.
2022 was different. A tornado and hail struck La Crau before harvest, and the family declassified everything, so Télégramme was the estate's only red that year. Wine Advocate gives the blend as 85% Grenache, with Cinsault, Syrah and Mourvèdre making up the rest.
Wine Advocate describes a structured, concentrated palate with velvety tannins and a long, dense finish. Vinous calls it round and elegant, Jeb Dunnuck notes a grand-vin sense of salty minerality, and Wine Spectator says it chooses savory elegance over power.
Against Vieux Télégraphe La Crau 2021, the 2022 Télégramme carries the estate's whole crop at about half the price; for a Vieux Télégraphe to open now, choose Télégramme.
Wine Spectator suggests drinking it through 2032. Open it an hour ahead and serve it with roast lamb or duck.
