Don Julio 1942 is a 100% blue Weber agave añejo tequila from Atotonilco El Alto in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, bottled at 40% alcohol. We carry it in 50ml, 375ml, 750ml and 1.75L sizes.
It is made at La Primavera, the distillery of Tequila Tres Magueyes (NOM 1449), now owned by Diageo, by master distiller Enrique de Colsa. It is named for 1942, the year Don Julio González began making tequila. The agave is slow-cooked for about 72 hours and distilled twice, and the tequila is aged at least two years in ex-bourbon American white oak, longer than the standard Don Julio Añejo.
Don Julio describes caramel and chocolate on the nose and warm oak, vanilla and roasted agave on the palate. Wine Enthusiast's Kara Newman notes sweet agave, a whisper of smoke and notes of tropical fruit, Sauternes and butterscotch.
The tall bottle is the benchmark luxury añejo; for a lighter style see Don Julio Añejo.
Sip it neat or on a large ice cube.
