Folonari Soave 1.5L

Folonari is an Italian wine brand dating to 1825 and part of Gruppo Italiano Vini, based in Pastrengo near Verona. Frederick Wildman is its official US importer.

This Soave DOC is a blend of Garganega and Trebbiano, which Wildman lists as 80% and 20% for the 2023 vintage, aged in stainless steel with no oak. Folonari bottles it in 750ml and in this 1.5L size. Wildman gives 12% alcohol for the 2023, and one retailer lists 12.5% for its 1.5L.

The importer describes a straw-yellow wine, fruity and crisp on the nose, light and clean, with delicate dry flavors of melon, pear and ripe apple and a crisp finish. Wildman also quotes the Wall Street Journal calling it a great party wine.

Against Bolla Soave DOC 1.5L, Folonari is an unoaked Garganega-led Soave in the same party size; for a crisp, dry big bottle for a crowd, choose Folonari.

Serve it chilled. The importer suggests shellfish, seafood, chicken, salads and antipasto.
