Jameson Black Barrel Irish Whiskey

Black Barrel is the bigger, oakier Jameson, and its name comes from the bourbon barrels it's aged in, which are charred a second time before they're filled. That double charring caramelises more of the wood's sugars.

It blends rich pot still whiskey with a rare, sweet small-batch grain whiskey. The result is sweeter and deeper: coconut, caramelised pineapple and toffee, with toasted wood, vanilla and a warm spice. It's bottled at 40%.

If Jameson feels too light, this is the upgrade for a few dollars more. Bourbon drinkers tend to love it; for the full pot still style, try Redbreast 12.

It's built for an Old Fashioned: 2oz Black Barrel, a bar spoon of demerara syrup and two dashes of Angostura, stirred over ice with an orange twist.
