La Vieille Ferme is owned by Famille Perrin, the family behind Château de Beaucastel in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The current label carries the Vin de France designation.
It's a blend of Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah; the producer doesn't publish percentages. The grapes are picked early in the morning from late August to mid-September and pneumatically pressed as soon as they arrive at the cellar, so this is a pressed rosé. It ferments for about 15 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel, stays in steel and is lightly fined. It's 12.5% alcohol, and the 750ml bottle has a screwcap.
The producer describes a petal-pink color, a floral, rose-led nose with crushed strawberry, then vine peach and pear drop on the palate and a saline finish.
Against Whispering Angel, La Vieille Ferme costs far less and comes in more sizes; for a party or a crowd, choose La Vieille Ferme.
The producer suggests serving it at 10 to 12°C with hors d'oeuvres, cold buffets, tomato salads, grilled meat and summer lunches.
