Whispering Angel is the flagship rosé of Château d'Esclans, an estate in the Esclans Valley in the Var, Provence. Sacha Lichine bought the château in 2006. In December 2019 Moët Hennessy (LVMH) bought 55% of the company; Lichine kept 45% and remains president.
The fruit comes from the Esclans Valley and nearby Côtes de Provence vineyards. The grapes are Grenache, Cinsault and Rolle (Vermentino), with Syrah also listed, in unpublished proportions. Grapes are picked at night, optically sorted, gently crushed and pressed, then fermented and aged in temperature-controlled stainless steel with lees stirring twice a week. There is no oak. It's 13% alcohol.
The estate describes a pale color and a full, lush palate that is bone dry with a smooth finish, and quotes James Suckling calling it deliciously creamy and smooth.
Against The Beach by Whispering Angel, this is the estate's Côtes de Provence flagship; for the original that made the name, choose Whispering Angel.
The estate recommends serving it at 8 to 12°C and drinking it within one to two years.
