Lindeman's was founded in 1843 in the Hunter Valley by Dr Henry Lindeman, giving the name more than 180 years of history. Bin 40 belongs to its Bin series of approachable varietal wines, each known by its bin number.
Bin 40 is a Merlot labeled South Eastern Australia, a broad appellation that lets the winemakers draw fruit from vineyards across the southeast of the country. This is the 1.5L bottle, double a standard 750ml.
The winery describes a "soft, elegant and approachable medium-bodied wine with complete, rounded characters."
Against Frontera Merlot 1.5L, Bin 40 is the Australian option, with the soft, rounded style Lindeman's describes; for a mellow Merlot to pour at a party, choose Bin 40.
Serve it slightly below room temperature. It's an easy match for burgers, pizza, roast chicken, pasta with tomato sauce and mild cheeses. Once opened, stopper it and finish it within a few days.
