Los Arcos comes from Emilio Lustau, the Jerez sherry house also known as Bodegas Lustau. It belongs to Solera Familiar, Lustau's core range, which some retailers still list under its old name, Solera Reserva.
It's 100% Palomino, aged at the Bodega Emperatriz Eugenia in Jerez de la Frontera in a solera of American oak casks. As an Amontillado, it ages first under a layer of flor yeast, then oxidatively once the flor fades. It's a dry sherry, at 18.5% alcohol.
Retailers describe it as dry, with toasted hazelnut, caramelised almond and dried orange peel, and a savoury, saline finish. Others mention walnut and a slight bitterness.
Against Harveys Bristol Cream, Los Arcos is dry and savory rather than sweet; for an aperitif with salted nuts, choose Los Arcos.
One retailer suggests serving it lightly chilled at 13 to 14°C. Pour it with Marcona almonds, olives, jamón, aged Manchego or mushroom dishes, or splash a little into a soup or pan sauce. The 375ml bottle is an easy way to try it before committing to the 750ml.
