MacMurray Estate Vineyards, formerly MacMurray Ranch, takes its name from the Russian River Valley ranch that actor Fred MacMurray bought in 1941. E. & J. Gallo bought the ranch in 1996 and has built the brand around Pinot Noir.
This is the brand's Central Coast Pinot Noir. Its fruit comes mostly from Olson Ranch Vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands. For earlier vintages the winery used a mix of used French oak and stainless steel, which keeps the fruit in front. The 2022 release was 100% Pinot Noir.
The current release shows cherry, raspberry and pomegranate with vanilla and toast, and a silky texture.
Against Banshee Pinot Noir, MacMurray is the silkier, more vanilla-toned style from a single main vineyard; for a smooth crowd-pleaser at the same price, choose MacMurray.
Serve it slightly cool, around 60°F, with roast turkey, pork chops, salmon or a mushroom pasta. It's ready to drink now.
