Segura Viudas is a Cava house in Penedès, Catalunya. Its wines reach the US through the importer Freixenet Mionetto USA.
This D.O. Cava is made from Macabeo, Xarel·lo and Parellada. The grapes are whole-cluster pressed, and the house uses its own selected yeasts for both fermentations. The second fermentation happens in the bottle, by the traditional method. The wine rests at least 15 months on its lees in bottle, after three months on lees in tank. The producer calls it a Brut Reserva and gives a light dosage of 9 grams of sugar.
The producer and importer describe white fruit, citrus, tropical and light floral aromas, then a dry palate of lime and pineapple, with bright acidity, a fine, persistent mousse and a long finish.
Against Freixenet Cordon Negro Brut Cava, Segura Viudas spends longer on its lees; for a toast with more depth, choose Segura Viudas.
The producer pairs it with shellfish, anchovies and soft cheeses such as Brie. The importer suggests fried chicken, pad thai or mimosas.
