Sella & Mosca is a Sardinian estate near Alghero. It is now part of Terra Moretti Vino.

The Riserva is 100% Cannonau, the Sardinian name for Grenache, from a selection of the estate's best grapes, aged about two years in large Slavonian oak casks before further time in bottle. Those are big casks, not small new barrels. It's 14% alcohol.

Expect red berries, cherry and plum with herbs, a wisp of smoke and sun-dried tomato, warm spice and undergrowth, soft polished tannins and a spicy finish.

Against Borsao Tres Picos Garnacha, the Sella & Mosca is a Riserva with two years in large casks and a more savory, herbal profile; for Grenache with island character and some age, choose the Cannonau.

Pour it with grilled meats, lamb, saltimbocca, spicy dishes or aged pecorino.
