Podere Castorani is an estate in Alanno, in the province of Pescara, between the Majella National Park and the Adriatic. Its history goes back to the surgeon Raffaele Castorani in 1793, and since 1999 it has been owned by former Formula 1 driver Jarno Trulli and partners. Its US importer says the estate is certified organic.
Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo is Abruzzo's deeply colored rosé. For the 2024, the importer describes hand harvesting in the first half of October from pergola-trained vines, then the saignée method after about 12 hours of cold skin maceration. The wine goes through partial malolactic fermentation and spends three to four months on its lees in vats.
The importer describes an intense pink, aromas of watermelon, pomegranate, exotic fruit and ripe almond, and a full-bodied palate of red and exotic fruit with an almond finish.
Against Mirabeau Forever Summer, Cadetto is deeper in color and fuller in body; for a rosé to serve with dinner, choose Cadetto.
The importer suggests slow-cooked baby octopus or sesame-crusted tuna.
