Louis Roederer Collection 246 Champagne 750ml

Collection is Louis Roederer's non-vintage, and each release is numbered. Collection 246 is built on the 2021 harvest.

It is 55% wine from 2021, 35% from a perpetual reserve of 2012 to 2020 and 10% oak-aged reserve wine from young Cristal vines. The grapes are 54% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 11% Meunier, in equal thirds from the Marne Valley, the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. About a quarter was made in oak foudres, 30% went through malolactic, and the dosage is 7 grams per liter.

The importer describes mirabelle, nectarine, candied lemon and vanilla, a delicate palate with a creamy mousse and chalky salinity, and a smoky, toasty finish.

Because Chardonnay leads, it's fresher than Bollinger Special Cuvée; for a crisp, food-friendly house Brut, choose Collection 246.

Drink it now or keep it a few years. Serve it well chilled in a white-wine glass.
