Madre Blanco is an unaged, 100% agave tequila from Los Altos, the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, bottled at 48% alcohol (96 proof) in a 700ml bottle.
It comes from Madre, the Los Angeles brand behind Madre Mezcal, which launched its tequila in 2024. It is distilled by the Padilla family at Tequila El Tepozán (NOM 1584) in San Julián: agave grown at about 7,500 feet is roasted in brick ovens, crushed, fermented in stainless steel and distilled twice in a stainless pot still, made with deep-well water and bottled at still strength.
Madre describes raw agave with a hint of citrus on the nose, then caramelized agave and minerality on a full-bodied palate. Madre says it adds nothing to change the taste, smell or color of its tequila.
At 96 proof it has more weight than most blancos; Pasote Blanco comes from the same distillery at a gentler 40%.
Sip it neat or with a few drops of water, or use it in a stirred tequila cocktail where the agave needs to stand up.
