Orphan Barrel Copper Tongue is a 16-year-old cask-strength straight bourbon from Diageo's Orphan Barrel series, which bottles old, forgotten stocks. It was distilled at the George Dickel distillery in Tennessee, bottled in Tullahoma, and comes in at just 45% (89.8 proof) straight from the cask.
That low cask strength makes it unusually mellow for an uncut bourbon. It shows almond, toffee and a floral note on the nose, then candied orange, peanut and cedar, with a long finish of ginger and lemon peel.
For an old, uncut bourbon that drinks gently, Copper Tongue is our pick. For another Orphan Barrel release, choose Orphan Barrel Fanged Pursuit; for an older Kentucky bourbon, see Elijah Craig 18 Year.
Give it time in the glass and add a little water, then sip it slowly.
We carry it in the 750ml size, in limited quantities. More bottles are under bourbon, and the rest of our whiskey is a click away. Pick it up at our Brooklyn store or get same-day delivery across NYC.

Wine Enthusiast (2022) advised giving it time in the glass and plenty of water; the reward is a nutty character with lots of peanut and almond, and a long finish flecked with ginger cookie, cedar and lemon peel. |
