Wheatley Vodka

Wheatley Vodka is made at Buffalo Trace in Frankfort, Kentucky, and named for master distiller Harlen Wheatley. It is made from red winter wheat, distilled ten times, seven on a micro-still and three more after blending, then triple filtered. It is bottled at 41%, or 82 proof. Buffalo Trace belongs to Sazerac.

It is grainy on the nose, with a classic clean palate and a faint peppery kick.

The producer suggests a Cucumber Collins, with muddled cucumber, lemon and elderflower tonic, or an American Mule with ginger beer and lime.

Wheat gives it a soft, slightly sweet texture, and the price makes it easy to keep on hand. Keep it in the freezer for Martinis.
