Compass Box made Stranger & Stranger to mark ten years of working with the London design agency of the same name, the people behind its famously bold labels. Only 4,802 bottles were released.
The recipe is as unusual as the label: 80% Glenlossie, 14% Glen Elgin and 5% Linkwood single malts, plus 1% of a one-year-old Girvan wheat and barley spirit. That young spirit is why it can't legally be called Scotch whisky, and it adds a sweetness that runs through custard, dark sugars, baked apple and a herbal note. It's bottled at 46%.
It's a bottle for the collector who likes a story as much as the whisky. For an easier-to-find blended malt with a similar Speyside character, try Monkey Shoulder.
Pour it neat, and let it sit a few minutes; the pear and lemon peel come up as it breathes.
We carry it in the 750ml size. More bottles are under blended Scotch, and the rest of our Scotch whisky is a click away. Pick it up at our Brooklyn store or get same-day delivery in Brooklyn, Manhattan & Queens.
