G4 Blanco de Madera is a 100% blue Weber agave tequila from Los Altos, the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, fermented entirely in wooden vats and bottled at 45% alcohol (90 proof) in a 750ml bottle.
G4 is made by master distiller Felipe Camarena and his sons at Destilería El Pandillo (NOM 1579) in Jesús María. The agave is cooked in brick ovens, crushed with a mechanical tahona and distilled twice in copper pot stills with well and spring water. The difference from the regular G4 Blanco is fermentation, which happens in wood instead of stainless steel. It is released once a year in numbered lots.
Expect rock candy, poached pear and cinnamon over earthy, herbal agave. VinePair (Tim McKirdy) gives the first release 95 points, calling it earthy, vegetal, herbaceous and bright, and Agave Matchmaker's reviewer panel scores lots 1 and 3 at 90. Tequila Matchmaker verified G4 as additive-free in 2020.
