Les Vignerons de Tutiac is a cooperative of about 400 growers farming roughly 4,000 hectares on both banks of the Gironde estuary, with its home at La Cafourche in Marcillac, Val-de-Livenne. Some 70% of its land carries France's HVE (High Environmental Value) certification, and 550 hectares are organic or in conversion.
This is an alcohol-free red from the cooperative. Alcohol-free wine starts life as wine, and the alcohol is removed afterward, leaving the grape character with almost none of the strength.
Expect a dark red with black fruit and a light toasty, barrel-like note, and very few calories compared with regular wine.
Against Pure Zero Tempranillo, a Spanish alcohol-free red, Tutiac comes from a Gironde grower cooperative; for an alcohol-free red with Bordeaux-country roots, choose Tutiac.
Pour it at cool room temperature in a regular red wine glass, alongside steak, braised lamb or aged cheese.
