Planteray 5 Year Barbados Rum 750ml

Planteray 5 Year is a Barbados rum from Maison Ferrand, sold as Plantation Grande Réserve until the 2024 rename. Pot and column still rums are aged in the Caribbean in ex-bourbon casks, then finished in Ferrand Cognac casks at Château de Bonbonnet in France. Newer bottles drop the Grande Réserve name and read Barbados 5 Year. It is bottled at 40%.

It is soft and sweet-edged, with cinnamon, vanilla, toffee and honeyed fig, and banana and pineapple on the finish.

This is an easy, affordable step up from Planteray 3 Stars: aged long enough to sip, light enough to mix. For more depth and dryness from Barbados, go to R.L. Seale's 12 Year.

Sip it on the rocks, or use it in a Rum Old Fashioned or a Mai Tai with a splash of a funkier Jamaican rum.
