Yamazaki Islay Peated Single Malt Japanese Whisky 2024 Edition 700ml

Yamazaki Islay Peated Malt is part of Suntory's 2024 Tsukuriwake series. Chief blender Shinji Fukuyo set out to pair Islay-style peat smoke with Yamazaki's balanced sweetness, and bottled it at 48%.

The smoke really does recall Islay, but the whisky stays polished and well-proportioned. Citrus, green tea and pine come first, then a sweet, brown-sugar core, with the smoke building toward a finish of toasted nuts and chocolate cookie.

For a peated Yamazaki that's bolder than the Golden Promise, this is it. Fans of Hakushu's gentle smoke should compare it with the Hakushu 18 Peated Malt 2024.

Pour it neat, and add water a drop at a time if the smoke is too much.
