Yamazaki Golden Promise Single Malt Japanese Whisky 2024 Edition 700ml

Golden Promise is an old Scottish barley variety, once common in Scotch but largely replaced by higher-yielding strains. Suntory has distilled with it at Yamazaki for fifteen years, and this 2024 Tsukuriwake release is made from 100% Golden Promise, bottled at 48%.

Barley variety is a quiet influence, and this whisky is quiet in the best sense. Floral notes, vanilla and malty biscuit on the nose; a clean palate of apple, honey and citrus; and an oily finish that leaves a creamy citrus impression.

Buy it with its 2024 partner, the Islay Peated Malt, for two very different sides of Yamazaki. For the standard Yamazaki style, the 12 Year is the reference.

Pour it neat, slightly cool, into a tulip glass.
