Amarula Fruit Cream Liqueur 750ml

Amarula is made in South Africa from the fruit of the marula tree, blended with cream and sugar and bottled at 17%. The cream liqueur launched in 1989, and the elephant on the label points to the brand's support for elephant conservation in Africa.

It is lighter on the palate than you might expect: soft caramel and vanilla, with a gentle tropical-fruit note from the marula that sets it apart from Irish cream.

Next to Baileys, which leans on chocolate and whiskey, Amarula is fruitier and a little lighter. Buy it when you want a cream liqueur that tastes of something other than cocoa, or for a guest who already has a bottle of Baileys.

Serve it chilled over ice, stirred into coffee, or shaken with vodka and a splash of cream for a dessert drink. Keep it away from citrus, which curdles the cream.
