Aperol Aperitivo

Aperol was created in 1919 by brothers Luigi and Silvio Barbieri in Padua, and it is now owned by Campari Group. It is flavoured with bitter orange, gentian, rhubarb and cinchona, and bottled at just 11%.

It is lighter, sweeter and less bitter than Campari, with orange, rhubarb and a gentle herbal finish.

For an Aperol Spritz there is no substitute; for a Negroni or a more bitter spritz, choose Campari. For a wine-based alternative with a drier finish, try Cappelletti.

The Aperol Spritz is three parts Prosecco, two parts Aperol and a splash of soda over ice with an orange slice. It also works in a Paper Plane, with bourbon, Amaro Nonino and lemon.
