Banshee Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir 2022 750ml

Banshee was founded by three friends, Steve Graf, Baron Ziegler and Noah Dorrance, who made their first Pinot Noir in 2009. The winemaking team is led by Ross Cobb, formerly of Flowers, working with Katy Wilson, and the brand is now part of Foley Family Wines.

This is Banshee's entry-level Pinot Noir, a regional blend rather than one of the single-vineyard bottlings, which sell for $70 to $80. The winery says the fruit for this Pinot is selected from premier vineyards across several sites rather than a single one. Banshee doesn't publish oak or whole-cluster details.

The winemaker's notes for the 2022, as quoted by a California retailer, describe dried cherry and earthy aromas with floral and sweet notes, a fruit-forward palate with light oak, and a bright finish of tart raspberry.

Against MacMurray Central Coast Pinot Noir, Banshee is the lighter-oaked, brighter style at the same price; for a fresh, red-fruited weeknight Pinot, choose Banshee.

Serve it slightly cool, around 60°F, with roast chicken, grilled salmon, mushroom dishes or a charcuterie board.
