Marghe was the nickname of Margherita Damilano, Guido Damilano's sister, and this 2024 Langhe Nebbiolo is dedicated to her.
The Damilano family business in Barolo dates to 1890, when Giuseppe Borgogno began making wine from his own vineyards. In 1997 he handed it to his grandchildren Paolo, Mario and Guido, who run it today. It is one of the oldest names among our Piedmont wines.
Marghe is 100% Nebbiolo from estate vineyards on calcareous clay in the Langhe hills. It ferments 12 days in stainless steel, then ages for 12 months in large barrels so the oak never masks the grape.
On the nose it shows small red fruits, red flowers and a touch of spice. The palate is medium-bodied and fresh, with fine Nebbiolo tannins and a savory, lasting finish.
Choose a Barolo when you want Nebbiolo with years of age and grip behind it; pick Marghe when you want the same grape's perfume at a price and weight that suit a Tuesday dinner.
Serve it around 62–64°F in a wide goblet. Damilano pairs it with porcini risotto; pasta Bolognese or aged cheese work too. Pick it up at our Brooklyn store or get same-day delivery across NYC.
