George Dickel is the other great Tennessee distillery, in Cascade Hollow near Tullahoma, and it spells whisky without the e. This 12-year-old is the fifth release in its Bottled in Bond series, distilled in spring 2011 and released in May 2024.
Bottled in Bond means one distilling season at one distillery, at least four years in a bonded warehouse, and exactly 100 proof. Dickel chills its spirit before charcoal mellowing it, the step that sets it apart from Jack. The nose is toasted oak, baked bread, caramelised fruit, roasted nuts and a hint of coconut; the palate is silky, with vanilla, rye bread, tart cherry and spice; and it finishes with caramel and a little coffee. It's bottled at 50%.
At this price, a 12-year-old bonded whiskey is a bargain. For a Tennessee whiskey from the other side, try Jack Daniel’s 10 Year.
George Dickel suggests a Perfect Manhattan: equal parts sweet and dry vermouth with two dashes of bitters.
We carry it in the 750ml size. More bottles are under Tennessee whiskey, and the rest of our whiskey is a click away. Pick it up at our Brooklyn store or get same-day delivery in Brooklyn, Manhattan & Queens.
