Green Spot comes from Mitchell & Son, the Dublin wine merchants who began bottling whiskey from the Jameson distillery in the 1880s. The Spot names come from the dabs of coloured paint Mitchell's used to mark casks by age.
Today it's a single pot still whiskey made at Midleton from pot still whiskeys aged between seven and ten years, in new and refill bourbon casks and sherry casks. It's fresh and spicy: green apple, honeysuckle and barley on the nose, then clove, dark honey and a touch of cocoa, with a dry, bright finish. It's bottled at 40%.
Pick it over Redbreast 12 if you prefer orchard fruit to sherry. When you want the older, richer bottle in the family, there's Yellow Spot 12.
Sip it neat, or pour it over a large cube with a twist of lemon peel. It makes a lovely, spicy Irish highball with ginger ale too.
We carry it in the 750ml size. More bottles are under Irish whiskey, and the rest of our whiskey is a click away. Pick it up at our Brooklyn store or get same-day delivery across NYC.
