Jackson-Triggs Reserve Vidal Icewine 187ml

Jackson-Triggs is a winery in Ontario's Niagara region, and its Reserve Vidal Icewine carries the Niagara Peninsula VQA appellation. In the US it is imported by Maisons Marques & Domaines (MMD USA).

It's 100% Vidal. The grapes hang on the vine through freeze-thaw cycles and are picked frozen below −10°C, then pressed slowly over a couple of days and cold-settled. A yeast that tolerates high sugar ferments the juice, and fermentation is stopped when sweetness and acidity balance. Alcohol runs from about 9 to 10% depending on the vintage, and the bottle is sealed with a cork.

Expect jasmine, dried apricot, nectarine, white peach and stewed pear on a silky palate, kept fresh by vibrant acidity.

Against Inniskillin Vidal Icewine, Jackson-Triggs is a 187ml split at about half the price; for a taste of Niagara icewine for two, choose Jackson-Triggs.

The split holds about a quarter of a standard bottle. Serve it well chilled after dinner with fruit tarts, blue cheese or foie gras.
