Johnnie Walker 18 Year Blended Scotch Whisky

Johnnie Walker 18 Year used to be called Platinum Label, and the name changed while the whisky stayed the same. Master blender Jim Beveridge built it from whiskies aged at least 18 years, drawn from distilleries across Scotland's main whisky regions.

Age shows here as smoothness rather than oak: orange peel and honey on the nose and palate, with a soft, long finish and only a whisper of smoke. It's bottled at 40%.

It's the sweet spot of the range: much of Blue Label's polish for about half the price, and a clear step up from Black Label. Give it to the person who already loves Black Label and deserves a treat.

Pour it neat in a tulip glass and give it a few minutes; a drop of water brings out the orchard fruit.
