Rhum Barbancourt Estate Reserve 15 Year, the Réserve du Domaine, is aged 15 years in French Limousin oak. Like every Barbancourt, it is made from fresh sugarcane juice rather than molasses and double distilled, a method inspired by Cognac, though today in column stills. The company was founded in Haiti in 1862 by Dupré Barbancourt, from the Charente region of France, and it is bottled at 43%.
It is barrel-driven and a little tannic, with cinnamon, vanilla, dates, cedar and pecan, then fig, fudge, leather and bitter walnut.
For a cane-juice rum with real age, this is the bottle. It is far deeper than Barbancourt 3 Star; for an aged molasses rum at a similar price, compare El Dorado 15.
Sip it neat or with a splash of water, the way you would a good brandy.
More aged rums are under rum. Pick it up at our Brooklyn store or get same-day delivery in Brooklyn, Manhattan & Queens.
