El Dorado 15 Year Special Reserve was the first El Dorado bottling, launched by Demerara Distillers in 1992. It blends molasses rums aged at least 15 years in ex-bourbon casks, from four stills at Diamond, Guyana: the Enmore wooden Coffey still, a metal Coffey still, and the Port Mourant and Versailles wooden pot stills. It is sold as Demerara rum, a protected name for rum made in Guyana.
It is rich and lively, with black cherry, demerara sugar, fruitcake and maple, and nuts, chocolate and pipe tobacco on a long finish.
For the money, this is the best-value long-aged rum on our shelf. It has more depth than El Dorado 12 and is rounder than the drier, oakier El Dorado 21.
Sip it neat or over one large ice cube, or use it in a Rum Old Fashioned with a dash of bitters and an orange twist.
More aged rums from Guyana and beyond are under rum. Pick it up at our Brooklyn store or get same-day delivery in Brooklyn, Manhattan & Queens.
