XXL Pineapple Moscato 750ml

XXL Pineapple Moscato is the heavyweight of the sweet-wine shelf: at 16% alcohol it carries about the strength of a fortified wine, wrapped in candy-bright pineapple.

XXL was developed in Maryland and is owned by Tri-Vin Imports of New Rochelle, New York, and this bottle lists Moldova as its country of origin. The brand pitches itself as Moscato with no manners.

Late-harvest Moscato grapes are the base. The wine is blended with syrup and pineapple flavor and fortified, which is where the extra alcohol comes from.

It tastes of ripe pineapple and syrupy sweetness, with enough alcohol to warm the finish. Choose XXL Pineapple for a tropical sipper over ice; pick XXL Apple Moscato when you'd rather have crisp orchard fruit.

Serve it well chilled, about 46 to 53°F, and pour smaller glasses than you would of a regular Moscato. It makes a quick party punch stretched with pineapple juice, fresh lime and soda water, and the sweetness tames spicy food like jerk chicken or Thai curry.
