Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is a Second Growth in Pauillac under the 1855 classification, often called Pichon Lalande. Champagne Louis Roederer and the Rouzaud family bought it in January 2007 from May-Eliane de Lencquesaing, who had owned it since 1978, so 2008 was one of Roederer's first vintages.
The 2008 is 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc. The estate typically ages its grand vin about 18 months in roughly 50% new French oak. It's 13% alcohol.
Robert Parker called it an elegant, supple Pichon Lalande that can be drunk now or cellared for 15 to 20 years. Wine Enthusiast describes it as stylish, balanced and intensely elegant, and Neal Martin found it more enjoyable than cerebral.
Against Chateau Lafite Rothschild 2018, the Comtesse is a mature Pauillac already in its window; for classified-growth Bordeaux to drink this year, choose Pichon Lalande.
Justerini's gives a drinking window of 2018 to 2042. The Wine Cellar Insider advises serving it at about 60°F and decanting mainly for sediment.
