Château Lynch-Bages is a Pauillac estate classified as a Fifth Growth in 1855 and owned by the Cazes family since the first half of the 20th century. Decanter, quoted by Bottle Barn, says it way over-delivers on that Fifth Growth status.
The 2019 is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. It was aged 18 months in French oak, 75% of it new. The château lists it at 14.1% alcohol.
The château describes fresh fruit and spice with subtle oak on the nose, then a creamy, balanced palate with dense, powerful tannins and precise fruit. Jeb Dunnuck calls it a massive, incredibly concentrated Lynch-Bages, and Antonio Galloni of Vinous calls it a total stunner.
Against Château Haut-Bailly 2020, Lynch-Bages is the more Cabernet-driven wine, 70% Cabernet Sauvignon against 52%; for a structured Pauillac to lay down, choose Lynch-Bages.
Jeb Dunnuck advises cellaring it for seven to eight years and says it can evolve for 40 to 50, while Wine Spectator says it is best from 2025.
