Cusumano was founded in 2001 by brothers Alberto and Diego Cusumano in Partinico, Sicily. Its Nero d'Avola belongs to the winery's single-variety line, which it describes as elegant rather than potent.
It's 100% Nero d'Avola, Sicily's signature red grape, under the Sicilia DOC. The winery's tech sheet describes a two-day cold maceration, fermentation at 26 to 28°C, malolactic in stainless steel and at least five months on fine lees before bottling. No oak is mentioned. It's 14% alcohol, and the bottle on our listing carries no vintage.
Producer notes describe red and black berries, firm tannins and black spice.
Against Tombacco Aglianico, Cusumano is smoother and fruitier; for an easy Sicilian red, choose Cusumano.
A retailer suggests serving it at 16 to 18°C. It's great with pasta alla Norma, grilled tuna, sausages or pizza.
