Dewar's Double Double Aged 21 Year Blended Scotch Whisky

Dewar's Double Double 21 is a blended Scotch aged in four stages and finished in oloroso sherry casks. Master blender Stephanie Macleod blends the aged malts and grains separately, lets each marry, combines them to marry again, and only then gives the whole blend its sherry-cask finish.

The sherry shows from the first sniff: chocolate, caramel, candied orange, plum and black cherry, with a whiff of coffee. On the palate there's chocolate-dipped raspberry and gingersnap over rich dried fruit, then smoke and spice on the finish. It's bottled at 46%.

The 375ml bottle is one of the best ways to drink a 21-year-old Scotch without paying for a full bottle. For a Japanese-oak twist on the same idea, try the Mizunara-finished 21; for something older and more floral, the 27 Year.

Pour it neat after dinner, perhaps with dark chocolate or a few toasted almonds.
