Dewar's Double Double is a series of old blends put through a four-stage ageing process, and this 21-year-old is finished in Mizunara, the rare Japanese oak. Master blender Stephanie Macleod ages and blends the malts and the grains separately, marries them, and then finishes the blend in casks.
Mizunara is slow-growing and hard to work into casks, and it brings a character no other oak gives. Here that means coconut and creamy vanilla over honeyed fruit, with a clean, sweet finish and gentle oak spice. It's bottled at 46%.
Pick it for someone who loves Japanese whisky and wants to see what Mizunara does to Scotch. For the sherried version of the same 21-year-old, there's the Oloroso-finished Double Double 21; for Mizunara in Japan's own whisky, see our Japanese whisky.
Sip it neat; a single drop of water brings out the coconut.
We carry it in the 750ml size. More bottles are under blended Scotch, and the rest of our Scotch whisky is a click away. Pick it up at our Brooklyn store or get same-day delivery in Brooklyn, Manhattan & Queens.
