Flor de Cana 7 Year Gran Reserva Rum 750ml

Flor de Caña has been family-owned since 1890 and makes its rum on a single estate at the foot of the San Cristóbal volcano in Nicaragua. Molasses is distilled in continuous columns at Chichigalpa, and the producer says its rums contain no additives and no added sugar. Gran Reserva is bottled at 40%; some bottles still carry the 7, though the US range now sells it simply as Gran Reserva.

It is full and dry, with toasted coconut, vanilla, fig, honey and dark chocolate.

For under $30, Gran Reserva is a sugar-free aged rum that mixes and sips. It is drier than Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva; for more age from the same estate, try Flor de Caña 12.

The producer positions it for mixing: try it with sparkling water and an orange peel, in a Cuba Libre, or in a Mai Tai.
