Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva Rum 750ml

Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva is made by Destilerías Unidas at La Miel, at the foot of the Andes in Venezuela. It is a blend of rums aged up to 12 years, with no age statement on the bottle, and in some markets it has been sold as 12 Años or under the name Botucal. It is bottled at 40%.

It is rich and round: toffee, candied cherry, vanilla and demerara sugar, then a little licorice and oak. Independent tests have found sugar in it, which is why it drinks sweeter than most aged rums.

Choose it if you like a dessert-sweet sipper. If you prefer a drier aged rum at a similar price, pick El Dorado 12 or Appleton Estate 8 Year Reserve.

Sip it neat or over a large ice cube after dinner, or use it in an Old Fashioned with less sugar than usual, since the rum brings its own sweetness.
